Coast Sens. Philip Moran and Sean Tindell have been named to leadership posts in the state Senate, Lt. Gov. Tate Reeves said Wednesday.
According to a release from Reeves' office, Moran, R-Kiln, will be chairman of the Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks Committee, replacing Sen. Giles Ward, who was recently chosen as Senate President Pro Tempore.
“Sen. Moran brings a solid knowledge of wildlife and parks issues to his new role,” Reeves said. “I appreciate his service and look forward to his insight as leader of this committee.”
“Growing up on a family farm in Kiln, I developed a love of hunting and fishing and an appreciation for managing our natural resources,” Moran said. “I thank Lt. Gov. Reeves for appointing me to lead this committee and look forward to serving with my fellow senators.”
Tindell, R-Gulfport, will be vice chairman of the Energy Committee, another position held by Ward.
“The Coast plays a critical role in our state’s energy industry, particularly with the connection of our ports and to the state’s rail system, and I believe it’s an area where we can grow further,” Tindell said. “South Mississippi plays a vital role in energy, and I appreciate Lt. Gov. Reeves’ strong show of support for the Coast with this opportunity to further serve my constituents.”
