Perhaps Mississippi isn't quite as red as we've been led to believe. It is the Republicans, after all, who have been advancing that story line. Turns out we are nowhere near the reddest state, at least ideologically.
That honor, in rankings by The Hill, goes to our neighbor Alabama. Ronnie Musgrove and Rep. Bennie Thompson seem to be the difference-makers who keep Mississippi slightly purpler than the four redder states: Alabama, Alaska, Idaho and Kansas.
