Supreme Court orders responses from McDaniel, Parker in election dispute

The Mississippi Supreme Court has ordered Harrison County Circuit Clerk Gayle Parker to respond by 2 p.m. Wednesday to Chris McDaniel's request for an emergency order giving him access to ballot boxes.

It also orders the McDaniel campaign to answer two questions:

"What specifically do you mean by election ballot boxes and their contents and referenced in your petition and upon what authorities do you rely to support your position in this regard?"

"What other state and/or federal laws, if any, may impact the disclosure of voters' personal information?"

McDaniel is seeking access to all the election material without personal information redacted. He says that information could be used to distinguish between voters with similar names.

McDaniel is trying to force a new runoff by finding voters who voted in the Democratic primary then voted illegally in the GOP runoff and other irregularities that could void the outcome. Sen. Thad Cochran, who has been declared the winner, says it has found only 909 votes that could be challenged in a review of 79 of 82 counties.
