The Secretary of State's Office today at 5:30 p.m. at the MGCCC Jeff Davis campus auditorium in Gulfport is holding one of numerous public hearings on the three ballot initiatives voters will decide in November.
The SOS is required by law to hold such hearings on ballot initiatives. The three initiatives are:
Initiative 26: would amend the state constitution to define a person as "every human being from the moment of fertilization."
Initiative 27: would require that voters show identification at the polls

Initiative 31: would prohibit the use of eminent domain to take land for private developments.
Additional hearings will be held, including in Gulfport and hattiesburg, before the Nov. 8 election on which the initiatives will appear on the ballot.
