Film summit held in Canton, Pearl

On July 7 and 8, the business and filmmaking communities will come together for the Mississippi Film Summit. During the two-day event, the state will celebrate the opening of the Mississippi Film Studios in Canton and host a one-day conference designed to explore the future of the film industry in Mississippi.

The summit will open with a reception at the new Mississippi Film Studios at Canton on Thursday evening, July 7. The daylong conference will be held at the new Muse Center on the Pearl campus of Hinds Community College on Friday, July 8.

“With an enhanced Mississippi Motion Picture Incentive Program and the August release of DreamWorks Studios’ ‘The Help,’ the Mississippi film industry is set to make headlines,” said Ward Emling, manager of the Mississippi Development Authority’s Bureau of Film and Cultural Heritage, part of the Tourism Division. “The new incentive places Mississippi among the top tier of production states and the filming of ‘The Help’ here reinforces our place as a top film destination with excellent community support. Mississippi’s film future is indeed bright.”
