George "Possum" Jones stumping for Bryant

Country music star George "Possum" Jones is going to be stumping for gubernatorial candidate Phil Bryant on Saturday at a fundraiser in Ocean Springs. Wow.

One has to wonder: Will he show up? (He was once known as "No Show Jones" for missing concerts back in his wild days). And, will he be riding on a lawnmower? (One of his wives once hid his car keys so he drove a riding lawnmower to get a drink).

Jones was arrested in Mississippi back in '83 on cocaine possession and public intoxication. But apparently the country music legend's wild days are behind him.

This should be an interesting fundraiser.

From Bryant's camp:

On Saturday, July 2, Country music legend, George Jones, will host a fundraising concert for Phil Bryant’s campaign for Governor in Ocean Springs, Mississippi.

George Jones, a Grammy Award-winner and member of the Country Music Hall of Fame, will perform at the fundraising event in support of Phil Bryant’s campaign for Governor. The event will be held on Saturday, July 2 at 7:30 p.m. at the Ocean Springs Civic Center which is located at 3730 Bienville Boulevard (Highway 90).

“I am very honored that Country Music Hall of Fame legend George Jones is a part of our campaign,” said Phil Bryant. “I have loved his music all of my life, and I look forward to the event on Saturday night in Ocean Springs.”
