For the two frontrunners in the GOP gubernatorial primary, Phil Bryant is so far leading Dave Dennis on endorsements, although Dennis scored the first big newspaper endorsement of the campaign.

Bryant’s endorsements include: Mississippi Association of Realtors, Home Builders Association of Mississippi, Mississippi Federation for Immigration Reform and Enforcement, former U.S. Sen. Trent Lott, U.S. Rep. Alan Nunnelee, U.S. Rep. Gregg Harper and former state Republican Party Chairmen Jim Herring and Billy Powell.

Dennis has had only one major endorsement to-date, but he scored near Bryant’s home turf, with the Madison County Journal newspaper endorsing Dennis. A Dennis campaign spokesman said several groups he’s met with have yet to endorse and that announcements about elected officials supporting Dennis will be coming soon. A Bryant spokesman noted that several of the groups that have endorsed him so far include thousands of members.

Democratic candidate Bill Luckett recently announced an endorsement by former state Supreme Court Justice Reuben Anderson.
