Oh, the things Mississippians Googled in 2016

What does ‘Rogue One: A Star Wars Story’ have to do with Mississippi?

The people over at High Speed Internet have done the heavy lifting and compiled the most Googled terms of 2016, broken down by state.

Across the South, “iPhone 7” dominated. It was No. 1 in Texas, Oklahoma, Louisiana, Georgia and Florida. And it was the most-searched term.

“Stranger Things,” Googled presumably by people interested in the TV show, not the 2016 election, was No. 2. No. 3 was that aforementioned election.

But Mississippi wasn’t so interested in politics, or TV shows, or smartphones. Nope, the top term for the Hospitality State was “123 Movies.”

Never heard of 123 Movies? Me neither.

Turns out, there you can “watch your favorites movies online.”

Yes, you can watch “Rogue One” for free from the comfort of your office chair as long as you’re not a stickler for quality. The version offered was recorded, apparently with a cellphone, at a theater.

Legal? I’m no lawyer but I’d err on the side of caution there. The site does weigh in, sort of: “Disclaimer: This site does not store any files on its server. All contents are provided by non-affiliated third parties.”

Mississippi isn’t alone. “123 Movies” is No. 1 in Trinidad & Tobago as well.
