Can MS Coast vote with just a pistol license? Here’s where to vote & what you’ll need

This election is, arguably, one of the most impactful in recent history. The lead-up to Tuesday, Nov. 5, has probably felt incredibly long to Mississippi voters, fraught with tensions and controversies.

As of one week before the 2024 election, 119,818 absentee ballots had been received, surpassing the 2016 total but well below the 2020 number, making it all the more important to find your polling place and vote.

Here’s how to locate your polling place in Mississippi, and what you will need when you get there.

Check your registration

Before you can cast your ballot, ensure you’re registered to vote. You can check your registration status on Mississippi’s Y’all Vote Page.

Find Your Polling Place

On Election Day, Mississippi residents must vote at their designated polling location. Here’s how to find yours:

  • Check your voter registration card

  • Use the My Election Day too on the Y’all Vote Page.

  • Use the Secretary of State’s online tool

  • Contact your County Circuit Clerk’s Office. For Harrison County, call 228-435-8233

Voting Options

Polls are open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Election Day. If you are in line by 7 p.m., you will be allowed to cast your ballot, even if the polls have officially closed.

What to Bring

Mississippi law requires voters to present a valid photo ID when voting in person. Acceptable forms include:

  • Mississippi driver’s license

  • A valid state identification card issued by any branch, department, agency, or entity of the State of Mississippi.

  • Valid U.S. passport

  • Valid government-issued photo ID

  • A valid Mississippi license to carry a pistol or revolver, containing a photo of the voter

  • A valid tribal photo identification card

  • A current and valid student photo ID issued by any accredited college, university or community or junior college in the State of Mississippi.

Important notes:

  • It can be expired, as long as it no more than ten years old.
  • If a voter doesn’t have any of the above forms of ID, they can obtain a free Mississippi Voter Identification Card at any circuit clerk’s office.
