World Cup Warning Issued By Iran State Media as US Resumes Strikes
An Iranian state news outlet has warned that the United States faces a “major risk” ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup as it resumed strikes on Iran.
“If the USA are betting on controlling oil and lowering gas prices ahead of the World Football Championship, they should understand: simultaneous military pressure and negotiations with Iran - this is a major risk,” said Nour News, an outlet affiliated with Iran’s Supreme National Security Council.
“Any misstep could turn Trump into a symbol of a costly and bitter mistake, the memory of which will be painfully relived at every World Cup.”
It comes as the U.S. resumed attacks on Iran on Monday, targeting missile launch sites and Iranian vessels trying to establish mines, the U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) said.
“U.S. forces conducted self-defense strikes in southern Iran today to protect our troops from threats posed by Iranian forces. Targets included missile launch sites and Iranian boats attempting to emplace mines,” Captain Tim Hawkins, CENTCOM spokesman, told Newsweek.
