Microwave moves by itself, leading woman to find pythons mating in Australia kitchen
It’s mating season for pythons in Australia — and one woman found out the hard way when two showed up hiding among the appliances on her kitchen counter.
Her first clue was the microwave, which had moved by itself.
Then there was that long, creepy tail draped over the stove.
Video shared by Sunshine Coast Snake Catchers 24/7 shows the snakes were all knotted up in a thick, squirming pile when a professional snake wrangler showed up.
“How’s this for a situation to walk in on in your kitchen,” the company wrote in a Nov. 3 Facebook post.
“A lady in Buderim called us after she noticed the microwave had been moved slightly and something was hiding behind it.”
It’s believed the large snakes got into the kitchen though a window directly behind the microwave, Sunshine Coast owner Stuart McKenzie says in the video.
It’s one of the last places you’d expect to see a python, let alone two at once, he said.
The homeowner was clearly unnerved, and video shows she waited on the porch for his arrival. She is also heard asking if it’s safer to stand on a chair while the snakes were being removed.
That wasn’t necessary, since pythons are sluggish snakes. However, McKenzie’s removal technique was disturbing in its own way.
He picked both snakes up at once, making it appear he was momentarily enveloped by large, writhing vipers.
“Two snakes, in a kitchen, just interrupted in coitus,” McKenzie says in the video. “Not every day that happens.”
The “love birds” were released together in the bush, he noted.
His video has been viewed more than 70,000 times and gotten 1,300 reactions and comments as of Nov. 4/ including a lot of jokes and suggestions the woman should have thrown cold water on them.
“When the microwave is rocking, don’t come knocking...,” Tracy Older posted.
“Could’ve been worse. Could’ve had two pythons mating in your microwave,” Nicole Cook wrote.
“Things were definitely heating up in that kitchen,” Megsie Moo said.
