R&B singer Gladys Knight’s Atlanta restaurant fails inspection
Legendary R&B singer Gladys Knight’s famous Atlanta soul-food restaurant failed its latest health inspection, receiving a 56 out of 100 possible points.
Anything under 70 is considered unsatisfactory.
Gladys Knight’s Signature Chicken and Waffles, which remains open, is a well-known tourist attraction, and people often wait up to an hour to get a table, WSB Channel 2 in Atlanta reported.
Among the 15 violations on Feb. 18 were heavy debris on ceilings and vents, employees going in and out of the kitchen without washing their hands, a reach-in cooler missing a door, some food inside the cooler being the wrong temperature, and heavy debris on a can opener.
The restaurant’s previous health inspection was in April, and it received a 94. Health inspectors were to re-inspect the restaurant within 10 days, Channel 2 reported.
The health department in Fulton County, Ga., where Gladys Knight’s Signature Chicken and Waffles is located, says restaurants must take immediate action when a health hazard is found. The restaurant can be shut down if it fails to comply, according to the department’s website.
Channel 2 talked to two customers waiting in line who were unaware of the failing score. “A 56? Oh wow,” one said. “An 85 is bad to me.”
They still ate there, saying they had been several times before and never had a problem.
Knight was born in Atlanta and has won seven Grammy awards, three with Gladys Knights and the Pips and four solo, according to Grammy. com. She was elected into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a member of Gladys Knights and the Pips in 1996.
