18-year-old shoots and kills his father in Missouri, police say. ‘My heart hurts’
A Missouri man was arrested after he told dispatchers he fatally shot his father, deputies said.
Around 11:20 p.m. Sept. 28, 18-year-old Carter Joshua Curtis called 911, reported he shot his adoptive father, then took off, according to a news release from the Bates County Sheriff’s Office.
Authorities responded to a street in Adrian where they found 41-year-old John McMurphy. He was pronounced dead at the scene, deputies said.
Authorities found Curtis one block from the scene and arrested him, according to the release.
“John was (an) amazing guy. Did a lot in the community. He was a super IT guy, always went out of his way for his coworkers. My heart hurts,” one person wrote on Facebook.
A motive for the shooting has not been released.
Curtis is charged with first-degree homicide and armed criminal action. He was booked into the Bates County Jail and is being held without bond, deputies said.
Adrian is about a 55-mile drive south of Kansas City.
