Postal worker with drugs in vehicle dumped mail in woods, took some home, GA cops say
A postal worker is accused of dumping mail in the woods, doing drugs in his work vehicle and bringing stolen mail to his Georgia home, authorities said.
Now, 33-year-old Marcus Gregory with the United States Postal Service faces dozens of charges, the Gwinnett County Police Department said in an Aug. 5 news release.
McClatchy News could not locate Gregory’s attorney for comment Aug. 5.
The office of the U.S. Postal Service Inspector General began looking into Gregory after receiving reports that customers hadn’t gotten their mail, according to the agency in the Atlanta area.
On July 31, undercover officers saw Gregory dump mail in the woods while he was working, then take “illegal drugs” in his vehicle, police said.
They pulled him over and arrested him, and when they searched his work vehicle, they found drugs and a gun, according to police.
In Gregory’s personal vehicle, investigators also found 215 pieces of stolen mail, and a few days later, they found more mail at his home, police said.
He’s been charged with 51 felony warrants and nine misdemeanor warrants, including theft by possession of stolen mail, theft by taking and driving under the influence of drugs, among other offenses, police said.
