A 43-year-old father and his 15-year-old son were stabbed after trying to stop a woman from being assaulted in a McDonald’s parking lot in Washington, police said.

The two saw what they believed to be a “domestic violence event” happening at about 10:30 p.m. Jan. 27, the Kelso Police Department said in a Facebook post.

A 19-year-old man was being aggressive toward a woman in the fast food parking lot, so the father tried to intervene, police said.

That’s when the dad and his son were surrounded by a group of people and stabbed, police said. They had life-threatening injuries, police said.

The 19-year-old man and a 16-year-old boy were arrested Jan. 31 on first-degree assault charges. Police said the investigation is ongoing.

Kelso is about 50 miles northwest of Portland.
