19-year-old electrocuted after out-of-control driver downs power line, Maine cops say
A 19-year-old was electrocuted after the driver of the truck he was in lost control and drove into a utility pole, Maine police said.
Maine State Police responded to reports of a car crash in Frenchville on Jan. 5, according to a news release.
A 20-year-old from Madawaska was driving the truck when he lost control, went off the road and hit a utility pole, causing power lines to fall, police said.
He and the truck’s passenger, later identified as Curtis Levesque, were able to get out of the vehicle, officers said.
While Levesque was walking back to the truck, he tripped on a power line and was electrocuted, police said.
Medical personnel pronounced Levesque dead at the scene, police said.
While trying to help, the 20-year-old was electrically shocked and was sent to a local hospital with minor injuries, police said.
The investigation remains ongoing, but police believe speed and icy road conditions could have contributed to the crash, the release said.
Frenchville is along the U.S.-Canada border, about 270 miles north of Augusta.
