Accused robbers find someone stole their getaway vehicle, Colorado cops say. ‘Ironic’
Three people accused of robbing a check-cashing business got a shock when they dashed outside to find their getaway vehicle missing, Colorado police reported.
An unrelated fourth person stole the vehicle while the group was pulling the heist just before 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 16, Commerce City police said in a news release.
Police called it “an unexpected and ironic twist.”
The accused robbers, who police said were masked and armed, tried to flee, but officers rounded up two of them, police said. The department did not release their names.
“The investigation is ongoing,” police said. “We are relieved no one was injured.”
Investigators believe the missing getaway vehicle may have been stolen in the first place but haven’t been able to confirm it, police said.
They ask that anyone with information call 303-227-7147.
Commerce City police did not immediately respond to McClatchy News request Dec. 19 for more information.
Commerce City is about 10 miles northeast of Denver.
