A passenger was trapped in a truck for nearly six hours after crashing off a steep cliff in Oregon, fire officials said.

Rescuers responded to the crash at about 1:45 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 8, in the Mount Hood National Forest off 6322 Road, the Estacada Fire District said in a Facebook post.

The truck had rolled down the embankment and stopped on a tree in a “very precarious position,” fire officials said.

The driver made it out of the truck with minor injuries, but he couldn’t climb up the cliff without help from rescuers.

Fire officials said the passenger was trapped in the truck, so they used tools and equipment to get him out.

This rescue took nearly six hours because of the remote location and “extended response time to get to the crash,” rescuers said.

Both men were taken to a hospital.

Mount Hood National Forest is in northwestern Oregon. It includes about 1.1 million acres. A third of that is “designated wilderness.”
