2 teens found dead in car in Dunkin’ parking lot, Oklahoma cops say. ‘Devastated’
Police in Oklahoma are investigating after they say two high school students were found dead in a car parked at a Dunkin’.
Kadence Brown and Jacob Lara, both 17, have been identified as the teens found in the car, according to a news release from the Tulsa Police Department.
Tulsa police found the two dead in a car parked at a Dunkin’ around 5:20 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 22, after they were both reported missing earlier that day. Police say an employee told them the car had been parked there since around 7 p.m. the evening before.
A preliminary report from the medical examiner “indicates that the cause of death was accidental carbon monoxide poisoning,” according to police.
“By using equipment designed to detect levels of carbon monoxide, investigators found that while the vehicle was idling, lethal amounts of carbon monoxide filled the passenger compartment,” police said in a news release.
Tulsa Public Schools confirmed in a Facebook post that the two were students at Will Rogers College High School.
“This week has been one of the most difficult for our community, as we grieve the loss of two of our students,” the post said.
Brown was “a state-qualifying wrestler” who “had dreams to take her love of wrestling to the collegiate level,” according to a GoFundMe page.
“Her family and friends remember her for her loving demeanor, her strength of spirit, and the way her laugh lit up a room,” the GoFundMe said.
“I’m really lost of words right now, really can’t believe this, my lil princess is gone,” Brown’s dad wrote on Facebook. “So hurt right now knowing I’ll never see her again.”
Lara was a “sweet and caring kid” who “was a light in everyone’s life,” a GoFundMe page said.
“We are all devastated by Jacob’s loss,” the GoFundMe said.
“Such a pure heart, will forever ever be in our hearts. There won’t ever be a day I won’t miss or think about you my sweet brother… I love you forever,” Lara’s sister posted on Facebook.
“Thank you God for lending him to me, we love you my son” his mother wrote on Facebook.
