President Obama lived in this DC townhouse listed for $1.2 million. Take a look
The modest Washington, D.C., townhouse that a young senator named Barack Obama once called home has landed on the real estate market.
The chic three-bedroom, 2.5-bathroom residence is listed for $1.279 million and is considered “sought after,” Realtor.com says, and is close to the Capitol.
“I think the appeal for Obama to live there was its proximity to the U.S. Capitol and the Senate and House offices,” listing agent Linda Pettie told Mansion Global.
The unit is jam-packed with high-end features including:
Multiple levels
Storage space
Work space
Wood floors
Fireplace
Backyard
Patio
Closet space
Basement washer/dryer
There is also a first-floor apartment that’s being rented for $1,500 a month, “and the lease conveys (until) the end of January 2024,” the listing says.
According to UrbanTurf, Obama lived in the residence in 2005 when he was first elected senator and was “a very good tenant” his former landlord, Johnsie Walsh, told the publication. He also was modest, just like his apartment at the time.
“I really respect people who have money or status or both and can live a minimal existence like he did,” Walsh told UrbanTurf.
