Snake bite leaves ‘sweet’ pup named Baby Girl on the mend, Colorado photos show

A dog named Baby Girl is recovering after a snake bite that was “no quick fix” in Colorado, an animal shelter said.

Baby Girl arrived at the Humane Society of the Pikes Peak Region after an issue that “stemmed from a snake bite,” according to an April 25 Facebook post by the Colorado Springs animal shelter.

The bite left her cheek and neck “severely swollen,” the shelter said.

Although the pup “still has some swelling in her neck” and about two to three weeks left of treatment, she is relaxing as she waits for a “quiet, loving home,” shelter officials said.

Colorado Springs is about 70 miles south of Denver.

What to do if your dog gets bit by a snake

The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals urges dog owners to keep their dogs on a leash to avoid them “sticking their face into heavy brush.”

If your dog gets bit by a snake, take them to the vet immediately so they can be given IV fluids and “pain medication to treat shock,” the ASPCA said.

“Approximately 80% of pets survive a snake bite if treated quickly, so a prompt response is essential,” Veterinary Specialists of the Rockies said on its website. “This involves recognizing the initial symptoms of a snake bite and immediately seeking care.”

The group said symptoms of a snake bite in dogs include:

• Weakness
  
  
• Trembling or shaking

• Diarrhea or vomiting

• Salivation or drooling

• Dilated pupils

• Paralysis
