A man went missing on a walk nearly two years ago.

Now, Georgia authorities have identified his remains.

State investigators said the remains were identified as 50-year-old Terry Christopher “T.C.” Cantrell of Gilmer County, the sheriff’s office announced April 11.

The confirmation comes more than a year after a utility crew spotted what looked like human remains in the woods of Gilmer County in February 2022, authorities said. Cantrell was last seen a year earlier on June 4, 2021, walking toward Highway 52 East.

Family members said he often hung out at campsites and fishing holes, according to missing person alert deputies posted at the time.

Additional details about Cantrell’s disappearance weren’t immediately available.

Authorities said they’re investigating the cause and circumstances surrounding his death. Autopsy results are pending.

Gilmer County is about 80 miles north of downtown Atlanta.
