A 14-year-old girl was struck and killed on Tuesday, Sept. 20, as she chased a dog into an Oklahoma road, police say.

Oklahoma Highway Patrol officials say the crash happened around 9:20 p.m. in Dibble, about 35 miles south of Oklahoma City.

A woman was driving a Lincoln Navigator on state Highway 76 when the girl ran into the roadway to catch a dog, a crash report states. The girl ran into the Navigator’s lane of travel and was struck.

The girl, from Dibble, died at the scene, highway patrol officials said. Her identity has not been publicly disclosed.

The driver of the Navigator, as well as a passenger, were not injured, according to highway patrol.

No charges will be filed, Trooper Eric Foster told KOCO. The cause of the collision was ruled as “improper pedestrian action.”

“The motorist wasn’t doing anything wrong. The child was trying to corral the dog,” Foster told the station “So, it was very unfortunate for everyone — the family involved and then also the people that were driving.”

The Dibble Fire Department asked for “prayers for the families involved.”

“They will need the community’s support and love,” the fire department said.
