Three siblings were killed in a fire Friday morning in a New Orleans-area home, Louisiana officials say.

Jefferson Parish deputies and firefighters responded to the home on Sept. 16 and found a 15-year-old dead on the scene, Sheriff Joe Lopinto said in a news conference with local news outlets. The teenager’s younger siblings, a 3-year-old and a 7-year-old, died later after being transported to the hospital.

The sheriff’s office confirmed the fatalities to McClatchy News.

The fire broke out around 9 a.m. in the 500 block of Lynmeade Drive in Gretna, just south of New Orleans, WWL reported.

Lopinto said deputies and firefighters were at the scene within two minutes of receiving the call, but by the time they arrived, the house was “really engulfed in flames.”

Officials are investigating the fire, but they do not suspect arson or foul play at this time, state fire marshal Dan Wallace told WVUE.

“The indications are that the fire started on the first floor,” Wallace said of the initial investigation. “The victims were found in the different locations. Two of the juveniles being found at the top of the stairway and another found at the bottom of the stairway.”

The cause of the fire has not yet been determined.
