Raccoon had a jar stuck on its head, but detectives were up to the task, video shows
Two homicide detectives in Pittsburgh saved the day on Sunday, July 17, but it wasn’t a murder they solved.
Instead, the Pennsylvania detectives cracked the case of how to free a raccoon from a plastic jar it had stuck on its head.
The Pittsburgh Bureau of Police said Detective Eddie Fallert noticed the raccoon “in distress” on the city’s north side on Sunday. He enlisted the help of Detective Booby Shaw, who arrived with tools from the police station.
They were shown in video posted by the police department on Facebook using pliers and a wrench to remove the jar from the raccoon. Without hesitation, the raccoon freed itself from the detectives’ grips to dart away.
“You’re free!” one of the detectives is heard saying.
Community members applauded the detectives for stepping in to help.
“Thank you for helping this poor animal! It looks like he just wanted some peanut butter,” one woman said.
“You handled this great and, you didn’t get bit! That’s a plus!” another commenter said.
