Python slithers into Walmart, found ‘chillin’ on shelf, Indiana rescue group says
A python slithered into a Walmart in Indiana and was found “chillin’” on a store shelf by a customer, officials said.
How the snake got there is a mystery, City of Bloomington Animal Care and Control said in a social media post, but “it was a good thing a Good Samaritan saw him and notified county officers to come pick him up.”
The python, named Wolverine by the shelter, went up for adoption on April 19, and he is in high demand, the shelter said.
“He’s a bit stressed and slightly spicy,” the post read. “He is growing used to the thought of being handled and will likely be able to relax more in a calmer environment.”
Demand was so high for Wolverine that, in just a matter of hours, the stray serpent was taken off the adoption list.
“He now has MANY potential adopters,” animal control said.
As of the morning of April 20, the post had been shared more than 2,000 times. But that attention hasn’t helped reveal how and why Wolverine wound up in Walmart or where his owner is.
“We realize snakes can be quite alarming for some and we can imagine finding one in a public space may cause discomfort. We would love to know how our little pal ended up in Walmart, but Wolverine isn’t talking,” the shelter said.
Walmart said that it is aware of the incident.
“The cleanliness and safety of our stores remains a top priority,” a spokesperson told McClatchy News. “We want to assure our customers that we will continue to prioritize their health in our stores and believe this matter to be resolved.”
