Woman disables sensors to steal $300,000 in Gucci, other luxury goods, CA cops say

A California woman has been accused of stealing more than $300,000 in high-end products from stores for resale online, authorities said.

The 38-year-old Costa Mesa woman, arrested last week on a charge of grand theft, used a tool to disable security sensors on merchandise at the stores before walking out with the products, a California Highway Patrol news release said.

Investigators with the Organized Retail Crime Task Force of the CHP Border Division found stolen goods from Gucci, Prada, Ramy Brook, Dodo Bar and Jimmy Choo at the woman’s home, the Nov. 29 release said.

They also saw her steal $3,500 in merchandise from a Nordstrom Rack store in Costa Mesa by putting a coat over her shopping cart and removing security sensors, the release said.

The woman resold the stolen goods on online marketplaces, investigators said.

They found 2,333 stolen items worth $328,683 “packed wall to wall in every room” of her home, the release said. Most still had store tags and deactivated security sensors.

The investigation is continuing, CHP officials said.
