Dad shot in head after road-rage fight with his toddler in car, Arizona police say
A father was shot in the head with his child inside the car during a road-rage incident in Arizona, police said.
Jenee Anisah Mariaanne Pannell, 27, is accused of shooting the man on Oct. 21 in Phoenix, then driving off, police said in a probable cause statement.
Pannell was arrested on Nov. 3 after detectives found her dark blue Kia Soul and tracked her phone records to the area of the shooting, the statement shows.
The father was driving a white Chevrolet Tahoe with his 2-year-old son and girlfriend inside when he and Pannell got into a verbal argument at a red light, police said.
Once the light turned green, police said the man drove ahead of Pannell and “slowly” drifted into her lane.
She then pulled out a gun and fired a bullet into the rear right window, striking the man in the head, authorities said.
The wounded man became incapacitated and crashed his car into a canal retention wall, police said.
He was taken to the hospital in critical condition. His son was not injured, and his girlfriend had minor injuries.
Police did not provide an update on his condition.
A city bus caught the incident on camera, including Pannell’s license plate number, the statement says.
The vehicle was registered in her name, leading detectives to her vehicle hours after the shooting, which was in Maricopa.
Maricopa is 35 miles south of Phoenix.
A search warrant allowed authorities to detect live pings from her cellphone, which lead them to a trailer in Glendale on Nov. 3, police said.
Pannell was arrested on charges including drive-by shooting, unlawful discharge of a firearm, discharging a firearm at a structure, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, aggravated assault causing serious physical injury, endangerment and disorderly conduct.
Her bail is set at $500,000.
A status conference will be held for Pannell on Nov. 9, then a preliminary hearing will follow on Nov. 12 at the South Court Tower in Phoenix.
