Violent ‘acts of revenge’ erupt between 2 families as teen feud escalates, NC cops say

A feud between two teenage girls escalated quickly this week to include family-backed “acts of revenge,” car chases and even gunfire, according to the Eden Police Department in North Carolina.

Identities of the girls weren’t released due to their age, police said in a news release. But warrants have been issued for two adults allegedly involved in the dispute: a 19-year-old woman and a 24-year-old man, police said.

Investigators say police got involved around 8:30 p.m. Thursday, when officers responded to reports of “a disturbance involving firearms” at the intersection of South Hamilton and Bridge streets in west Eden. The town is about 75 miles northwest of Durham, along the Virginia state line.

“While officers were en-route they received two additional calls for shots fired in the area of Taylor St. and a third call advising there was a victim at Jay St and Patrick St. suffering from a gunshot wound to the face,” police said in the release.

Rockingham County EMS also responded to the call and determined “the victim had minor injuries not consistent with a direct gunshot wound,” officials said.

Further investigation revealed the multiple gunfire reports Thursday evening were linked to “a prior physical altercation between two high school age females,” officials said.

“The two females both enlisted help from family and friends to carry out acts of revenge on each other’s behalf,” according to the release.

“The two parties then prearranged a location to meet just outside of the Eden City limits. As a result of this prearranged meeting, multiple cars loads of people were waiting at the ... location.”

A car chase ensued between the two groups, leading “into the City of Eden where gun fire was exchanged,” officials said.

Details were not released on how the chase ended and how many vehicles were involved.

However, warrants were issued for Destiny Blake Cardwell, 19, of Eden, on a charge of “assault with a deadly weapon”; and Cary Denzel Myers, 24, of Reidsville, on a charge of “discharging a firearm into an occupied vehicle,” according to the release.

Both have been arrested and were being held on $100,000 bond, officials said.
