Whataburger adds a spicy chicken sandwich to its menu — but it won’t be around forever
The chicken sandwich wars just got spicier.
Whataburger announced Monday that it’s adding a new item to its menu: a spicy chicken sandwich.
“At Whataburger, we’ve spent time meticulously crafting the Spicy Chicken Sandwich recipe – and it shows with each bite,” Rich Scheffler, vice president of marketing and innovation, said in a news release.
The sandwich features a “spicy from within” chicken filet topped with lettuce, tomatoes, pickles and mayonnaise, the company said.
If this sounds like the sandwich of your dreams, you’ll have to act fast — the spicy chicken sandwich will only be available for a limited time.
Whataburger has 830 locations across 10 states. You can find your nearest restaurant here.
Last summer, Popeyes released its first chicken sandwich, going toe-to-toe with Chick-fil-A’s popular offering. The move started what’s been dubbed “the chicken sandwich wars.”
After its release on Aug. 12, Popeyes’ chicken sandwich sold out in just over two weeks, during which time customers went to great — and sometimes violent — lengths to get their hands on the sandwich.
Since then, several fast-food chains including McDonald’s and KFC, have released their own chicken sandwiches, sparking many a social media debate as to which reigns supreme.
So far, people seem pretty pleased with Whataburger’s offering.
Others, however, aren’t as impressed.
