Man cannibalizing his 90-year-old grandmother is ‘worst thing’ we’ve seen, CA cops say

Update: Dwayne Wallick was charged with murder on Wednesday, and investigators say he used an ice pick and knife in the killing of his grandmother, according to the Contra Costa County District Attorney’s Office, as reported by SFGate.com.

Original story:

Police responding to a 911 call in Richmond, California, said they found a 37-year-old man cannibalizing his grandmother, who was pronounced dead at the scene, according to media reports.

Richmond police spokesman Sgt. Aaron Pomeroy said the person who made the 911 call at 2:10 p.m. Monday reported there was a woman on the ground bleeding and a man standing near her in the 1200 block of Club Court, a peaceful residential area, according to The Mercury News.

Officers arrived to find Dwayne Wallick straddling 90-year-old Ruby Wallick, “digging in her flesh,” according to ABC 7.

Officers told Wallick to stop and when he wouldn’t, they used a Taser on him, according to The Mercury News. After a struggle, police were able to handcuff Wallick and take him into custody, the newspaper reported.

“I will say that in 26 years of law enforcement it’s the worst thing I have ever seen,” Pomeroy said, according to the San Francisco Chronicle.

Pomeroy said Wallick was transported to the hospital for a medical evaluation — but not psychiatric treatment — and that “he was not previously known to law enforcement,” the Chronicle reported.

Authorities are investigating whether drugs were involved, according to the East Bay Times.

Ruby Wallick was pronounced dead at the scene. Her cause of death will be determined by the Contra Costa Medical examiner’s office.

Both the grandson and grandmother lived at the Club Court residence, according to East Bay Times.
