Neighbor kills rabid coyote that attacked two men and dog, Pennsylvania officials say

A rabid coyote was killed after it attacked two people and a dog, Pennsylvania media report.

A Newberry Township resident killed the coyote Tuesday after two separate incidents the day before, WHP reported.

The coyote attacked a man and his dog Monday, then attacked another man later in the day, the York Daily Record reported.

A neighbor shot and killed the coyote and gave the carcass to the Pennsylvania Game Commission, WHTM said.

The coyote tested positive for rabies, according to WHP.

“The Department of Health contacts anyone who may have had any type of contact or involvement with a rabid animal to assess the type of contact to determine if post-exposure treatment is necessary,” Brittany Lauffer, public information officer for the Pennsylvania Game Commission, told the York Daily Record. “Post-exposure treatment consists of numerous injections given in various muscles and around the bite site if present, and follow-up visits to complete the vaccine series.”
