Man who shot and killed ex-girlfriend on his doorstep won’t be charged, CA cops say
A California man won’t be charged for the death of his ex-girlfriend, who died during a shootout at his front door, police say.
Adrianna Navarro, 28, of Vallejo, California, went to the home of her ex-boyfriend and was accompanied by Rickey White Jr., 28, who brought a gun, the Dublin Police Department said in a news release.
Navarro’s ex-boyfriend, whose name has not been disclosed, told officers he woke up to banging at his front door. When he opened the door, he found White pointing a gun at him, police said.
White and Navarro attempted to assault him and he fired his gun at them in self-defense, he told police. He then fled and called the police.
Police officers said they arrived and found White and Navarro suffering from gunshot wounds. White was taken to a hospital for his injuries but Navarro died at the scene, according to the release.
Prosecutors and police aren’t positive who shot Navarro, but the ex-boyfriend won’t be charged in her death because it was self-defense, they told KRON4.
“In the state of California, you have the right to protect yourself in your own home,” police Capt. Nate Schmidt told KRON 4. “(The homeowner) is listed as a victim at this point. He was scared for his life. He fired several times to get away from the threat.”
White has been booked into Santa Rita jail on charges of “homicide, attempted homicide, and home invasion robbery,” the release said.
