Woman’s car was stolen from NC daycare. But luckily she had an Apple Watch, cops say
A woman’s Apple Watch led North Carolina police to her stolen car, officials say.
The woman told police that she was in a High Point daycare on Monday picking up her child when she heard her car motor and looked outside to see the car being stolen, according to a release from the High Point Police Department.
She told police that another driver in a tan Jeep Cherokee across the street was waving the driver over as if to tell him to follow, according to the release.
The woman was wearing an Apple Watch and had left her phone in the car, the release says, and the watch helped officers find her belongings.
The watch was “pinging,” which led police to “many of the victim’s belongings,” according to the release. But the car was not found at that address.
The Jeep Cherokee, which was also stolen, was found soon after and returned to its owner, according to the release.
On Wednesday, an officer saw the woman’s Honda Accord and tried to stop the driver who took off, ensuing a chase, the release says.
The chase went into the jurisdiction of the Davidson County Sheriff’s Office, police say.
Deputies eventually stopped the fleeing vehicle, which was occupied by two 16-year-olds, a 15-year-old and a 14-year-old, the release says. They were all arrested and charged with felony possession of a stolen motor vehicle and felony flee to elude arrest.
A loaded gun magazine, but no gun, was found in the car, police say.
