Baton Rouge Police Chief Carl Dabadie said Tuesday officers have worn riot gear when they faced protesters over the last few days because of a "credible threat" made against law enforcement.

The threat came after the burglary of a pawn shop on Government Street Saturday when a police officer interrupted thieves stealing handguns. The officer was able to catch one of the robbers, Dabadie said.

That robber told officers that the guns were stolen "to get bullets to harm police officers," Dabadie said.
