One lucky ticket sold in South Mississippi missed a billion-dollar Powerball jackpot, but still was a big winner.

The ticket for Wednesday’s $1.4 billion Powerball drawing was sold at Neco’s XP gas station and convenience store at 9301 Kiln Delisle Road in Pass Christian.

The player won $100,000 by matching four out of five white balls and the red Powerball, according to the Mississippi Lottery Corp. The winning numbers were 3, 16, 29, 61 and 69, with a Powerball of 22.

Fifteen players nationwide matched the five white balls but not the Powerball to win $1 million. Four of those players doubled their prize to $2 million by paying an extra $1 dollar and choosing the Power Play option.

The next drawing is Saturday, Sept. 6, with an estimated jackpot now of $1.8 billion. That makes it the second-largest lottery jackpot in U.S. history, according to the Mississippi Lottery. It’s also a record 42nd drawing since a winning ticket was sold.

With no Powerball winner since May 31, when a California player last hit for $204.5 million, Powerball fever is spreading across the country.

The estimated cash value of $826.4 million has people dreaming of how they would spend their jackpot. Their first expenditure would be more than $100 million in federal taxes and another $2.5 million in state taxes, according to usamega.com.

That still leaves a big payout to cover a lucky winner’s dreams.
