UPDATE: Woman killed in Bay St. Louis wreck identified

A woman killed in a two-car accident Tuesday has been identified.

Hancock County Coroner Jim Faulk said Shirley Spear, 83, of Diamondhead, died of injuries she suffered in a wreck on Mississippi 603 near Kiln-Waveland Cutoff Road about 1:30 p.m.

Spear was a passenger in a white sedan her husband was driving. They were traveling north in a southbound lane when the crash occurred, Faulk said.

Spear died at the scene.

Her husband was taken to the hospital. He suffered a broken nose and broken ribs, but is doing OK, Faulk said Wednesday morning.

The driver of the Ford F-150 pickup tried to swerve to avoid the car in his lane. His injuries weren't life-threatening, Faulk said.
