Flipped SUV with children inside cause of traffic delay on I-10 near DeLisle

HARRISON COUNTY -- A woman had a blowout while she was traveling westbound at about 6 a.m. on Interstate 10 near mile marker 19, and it caused her SUV to flip, an official said.

Chase Elkins, public information officer for Mississippi Highway Patrol, said the 2000 Ford Explorer veered off the roadway to the right after the tire blew out and flipped one time.

The female driver of the SUV was not wearing a seat belt, Elkins said. She was taken to Garden Park Hospital in Gulfport for treatment of minor injures, a Harrison County sheriff's official said.

The passenger in the vehicle was not injured and was wearing a seat belt, and Elkins said two children in the back seat of the vehicle were in safety restraints and were also not harmed in the accident.

Westbound traffic on I-10 was delayed Monday morning, but Elkins said the accident appeared to be cleared from the roadway at about 8:30 a.m.
