Traffic alert: Multiple crashes snarl traffic at U.S. 49 and O'Neal Road

GULFPORT -- Police are diverting northbound traffic at U.S. 49 and O'Neal Road while emergency responders deal with multiple crashes.

Police issued the alert just before 4 p.m. Friday.

Sgt. Damon McDaniel said southbound traffic is moving at a normal flow.

There's only one lane of traffic open around Keesler Federal Credit Union and just north of that area. No motorists are being allowed north on 49 at O'Neal.

A woman has told the Sun Herald she witnessed a carjacking that resulted in several crashes.
