No one injured when car crashes into building

GULFPORT -- Workers and clients at Republic Finance were startled Monday morning along with a driver whose vehicle struck the front of the building.

The driver apparently hit her gas pedal instead of her brakes and her vehicle struck the bricks of the building at 520 East Pass Road about 9:30 a.m.

The woman was not injured, nor was anyone else at the business, police Sgt. Damon McDaniel said.

"It sounds worse than it was," McDaniel said.

"It messed up the bricks on the building but the vehicle didn't go inside," he said.

A worker who answered the phone at Republic Finance said it caught everyone by surprise. The worker said she heard what appeared to be the vehicle's air bag deploy.
