I-10 drivers get stuck in mud avoiding Jackson County crash

Interstate 10 saw traffic backups from the 50 mile market in Ocean Springs to the exit near Gautier-Vancleave Road after a two-vehicle accident without injuries Sunday afternoon, officials said.

Mississippi Highway Patrol spokesperson Chase Elkins said the crash left one vehicle in the median, and several more ended up stuck there. Drivers tired of waiting for traffic to move tried to cross the median but got stuck in mud, he said.

Elkins said traffic was already heavy because of the Easter weekend and got even heavier after the crash around 2:45 p.m.

MHP advises motorists to "just slow down," Elkins said, and stop trying to cross the median.
