GULFPORT -- Northbound lanes of U.S. 49 at Interstate 10 were cleared for travel by 11:17 a.m. Monday after a sport utility vehicle overturned, injuring the driver.

Police alerted the media about 10:30 a.m.

The driver of the SUV had been southbound, crossed the median and overturned in a northbound lane, Sgt. Damon McDaniel said.

The driver, a female, was taken to a hospital for treatment.

Her male passenger had no apparent injuries, McDaniel said.

The couple indicated traffic stopped suddenly and the woman lost control of the SUV while trying to avoid an accident, he said.
