2 Gulfport officers hurt in chain-reaction crash of 3 patrol cars
GULFPORT -- Two police officers were treated for minor injuries Wednesday night after a fender bender involving three of the department's patrol cars on U.S. 90.
Gulfport police Sgt. Damon McDaniel said several officers were dispatched to a call regarding what was reported to be a "large fight." The cars were eastbound on 90 near Roberts Avenue about 7:45 when the lead cruiser slowed for traffic, McDaniel said.
Roberts Avenue is the next street west of Hewes Avenue.
"When the lead car slowed for traffic, the traffic stopped and the last police vehicle hit the bumper of the police vehicle in front of him which hit the bumper of another patrol car," he said. "It was a domino effect."
The accident happened in the left lane of traffic. McDaniel said the traffic had probably slowed for the red light at Hewes Avenue.
McDaniel said the officers were released from the hospital later Wednesday night.
No arrests were made in regard to the fight call.
