Special-needs students unharmed in bus crash
GULFPORT -- Students riding a special-needs bus were unharmed Friday morning when a car rear-ended the bus at Cowan Road and East Pass Road, police Sgt. Damon McDaniel said.
The bus was stopped on Cowan waiting to merge onto East Pass when it was hit by a 2012 Nissan Rogue, police Sgt. Damon McDaniel said.
The bus was carrying eight or nine students who attend child-development classes in the Harrison County School District.
A pregnant adult assistant to the driver was taken to the hospital as a precaution, McDaniel said.
The bus probably has only minor damage, he said.
McDaniel alerted the media at 8:14 a.m. for a traffic alert and said the road was cleared for travel shortly afterward.
