Christmas traffic enforcement statistics

By the numbers

The Mississippi Highway Patrol has released statistics from its Christmas weekend traffic safety campaign. The numbers statewide with a breakdown for Troop K, which patrols Hancock, Harrison, Jackson, Pearl River, Stone and George counties:

n Statewide: 4,409 citations (including 2,934 hazardous violations); investigated 250 collisions with four that killed five people and injured 81 others; 85 DUI arrests: 6 drug arrests; 2 felony arrests; 1 public drunk, 112 seat belt citations, 21 child restraint violations.

n Troop K: 304 citations (including 194 hazardous violations); investigated 22 collisions that injured 6 people; 13 DUI arrests, 1 felony arrest.
