Coroner IDs woman killed in high-speed chase; passenger critically injured

GULFPORT -- One person died and another was injured after a high-speed chase ended in a wreck Thursday on Wolf River Road.

Shantel Seay, 37, of Saucier, was northbound on Wolf River Road in a 2003 Chevrolet TrailBlazer when she failed to navigate a curve. The car left the road, rolled over and ejected Seay and her passenger.

The passenger was taken to Garden Park Hospital in Gulfport where he was operated on and is in critical condition. Neither was wearing a seatbelt.

Harrison County deputies had attempted a traffic stop near Canal and Landon roads after noticing the woman driving recklessly, Sheriff Melvin Brisolara said in a press release.

Deputies gave chase when she refused to pull over and tried to flee west on Landon Road, Brisolara said.

The sheriff said the chase continued on Wolf River Road, which transitions from Landon Road just north of West Harrison High School. When Seay lost control of the SUV, it ran off the road near Jason Drive, flipping several times.
