By the numbers
The Mississippi Highway Patrol has reported its numbers of arrests and citations over the Thanksgiving weekend. Here's statewide numbers and a breakdown for Troop K, the Biloxi-based troop that patrols the six southernmost counties.
Statewide: 6,198 citations (4,273 hazardous violations, 1,683 non-hazardous); investigated 221 collisions that killed four people and injured 73, four crashes were alcohol-related; made 121 DUI arrests, 16 drug arrests and four felony arrests; issued 83 tickets for 83 seatbelt violations and 18 child-restraint violations.
Troop K: 584 citations (365 hazardous violations, 198 non-hazardous); investigated 31 collisions that killed one person and injured 17, no crashes were alcohol-related; made 15 DUI arrests, three drug arrests and one felony arrest; issued tickets for two seatbelt violations and found no child-restraint violations.
