Suspected ammonia leak shuts down I-12 in St. Tammany Parish

Interstate 12 has been shut down in both directions near Goodbee in St. Tammany Parish as Hazmat crews investigate a suspected ammonia leak at the Diversified Foods plant near Goodbee, officials confirmed.

The New Orleans Advocate reported the incident on its website.

The plant has been evacuated, but the crews were still evaluating the possible leak and had not begun any broader evacutation, according to Trooper Dustin Dwight of the Louisiana State Police.

A call about the possible leak came in about 8:30 this morning, Dwight said.

Public Service Commissioner Eric Skrmetta posted to his Facebook page about the leak, advising people to avoid the area.

Crews from the Louisiana State Police, the Department of Environmental Quality, St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office, and St. Tammany Fire Districts 4 and 13 are at the site on La. 1085.
