Update: Crashes cleared, traffic has returned to full speed on I-10 in South MS

6 p.m.: The crashes that backed traffic up on I-10 eastbound in Jackson County on Thursday have been cleared.

ORIGINAL STORY

The Mississippi Department of Transportation is reporting that the left eastbound lane Interstate 10 is closed in Jackson County.

At 4:34 p.m. MDOT reported a crash at the Gautier-Vancleave Road interchange (Exit 61). MDOT cameras show traffic backed up to the Mississippi 57 interchange (Exit 57). Traffic is also being slowed by a previous crash farther east on I-10 that recently cleared.

MDOT says it could take up to an hour before normal traffic flow is restored and is advising drivers to avoid the area.
