Highway Patrol identifies victims killed in separate South Mississippi car crashes
Two people died and another was injured after separate car crashes on Friday in South Mississippi, authorities said.
Mississippi Highway Patrol troopers first responded to a crash at 1:40 p.m. Friday on Highway 90 in Jackson County. A 42-year-old man driving west in a 2022 Volkswagen Arteon collided with a 1997 Chevrolet Blazer, authorities said.
The crash killed Kenneth Light, 68, of Pascagoula, according to the Highway Patrol. Light was driving the Chevrolet Blazer and died at the scene.
The Highway Patrol also responded to a crash at 4:45 p.m. Friday on Interstate 59 in Pearl River County. Authorities said a 68-year-old man driving south in a 2014 Nissan Frontier ran off the road and hit a tree.
The crash killed 66-year-old Charlene Parker of Picayune, who was a passenger in the car, according to the Highway Patrol. The driver was injured and Parker died at a hospital.
The Highway Patrol said both crashes were under investigation.
